Morristown, NJ

Situated on former pastureland now dominated by mature oak and maple, this house required a graceful transition from finish floor indoors to a sloping lawn outdoors. The careful placement of low stone walls created terraces for gathering, gravel paths for walking, and planting beds containing inkberry, redbud, and ferns. Mature maples provide a green ceiling making for a shady retreat from the sun. Chunky granite slated for fill under a parking lot was rescued from an excavator a few miles up the road and used to build the walls. Elements include a cedar platform deck, stepping boulders and gravel terrace with fire pit.
